[Eat] Taiwan – Food to try at Shilin Night Market

Travelers who have been to Shilin Night market will know that it is a huge place for delicious street food and lots of things to see, buy and play.

There are so many food to try and what would be the one that worth queuing and waiting? Choices from food that are not widely accepted by tourists, and some of the hidden food that you might miss. These are stalls that I always go to when I am in Taipei and will discovered some new found favorite in subsequent visits.

[Eat] Taiwan, Taipei- iNPUT Music Cafè 音鋪

A hidden gem found in the alley near the busy Tong Hua Street. Not sure if you all know about this place? It is well known among the fans of Taiwanese band, Mayday. This store is opened by one of the members, Stone with his 2 other friends who are musicians.

It is a music store to be exact, however, they have a little cafe area for coffee lovers. As I am not a musician nor have any knowledge of musical instruments, I will not cover about that section. Therefore, this post will focus on the café.

[Eat] Taiwan – Rilakkuma Cafe (拉拉熊咖啡廳) in Taipei

I have to admit that I am a crazy fangirl for Rilakkuma and love it so much that I will always buy its stuff and collect them. It is always on my to-do list to visit the café in Japan, however, they only do a pop-up store for Rilakkuma café, which means, they will be in certain parts of Japan for a period of time and move on to another location.

When the news of Rilakkuma café was opened in Taiwan, I have been planning to visit the cafe to have a cup of coffee and meal there. Without any hesitation this time, I kept a day free in my itinerary and made my reservation online.

[Eat] Taiwan, Taipei- Top One Pot Hotpot Restaurant Fuzhong Branch

We tried the Wu Lao Guo during our previous visit to Taiwan. This time round, our Taiwanese friend introduced this famous hot pot restaurant, Top one pot, in Taiwan. This is ranked top 3, within 2 years of its operation. Currently, its review from the local was excellent and some even said that it is better than Wu Lao Guo. However, it is up to the individual preference and for service wise,  after serving the customers, the service staffs at Top One Pot are not required to bow 90 degree, unlike Ding Wang or Wu Lao Guo whereby this action might cause some customer to feel uneasy.

[Eat] Japan, Nikko- Yuba Soba Ryori at Tsuruya ChuZenji Ten

When you visit Nikko there is one dish that you shouldn’t miss, the [Yuba soba] this could be found everywhere around the street of Nikko.

Little to know:

Yuba(湯波) is known as tofu skin. There are 2 major cities in Japan, Nikko, and Kyoto, which are famous for their yuba.   It was originally from Kyoto and then to Nikko, this dish was served to the monks in the past and now is their local traditional delicacy.

Soba(そば), the buckwheat noodles is another delicacy that you shouldn’t miss it. The well-known soba town,  held a soba festival yearly during the autumn, in Imaichi. Where all the soba restaurants in the country will participate in. And the reason for their famous buckwheat noodles is because of the handmade noodles,  using high-quality buckwheat and clean water supplied from the feet of the mountains.
