[Move] Japan-Direct Ltd Exp Train Nikko

From my previous post I have covered on how to get to Nikko by changing train at Utsunomiya station, and now I am going to touch on the direct train access to Nikko and getting back to the city.

As you all know that I have missed my direct train from Shinjuku to Nikko and got to take a longer but yet fun route down. But my plan for this trip was to sit on the direct train at least once and yes, I got the chance which at first I thought we would miss it again.

[Trip] Japan, Tochigi – Half day tour in Nikko

Half day in Nikko is actually a little rush, however, it can still be done.  For me, I have put my top priority as the waterfall and Toshogu shrine, which are the 2 main place I would want to visit and as for the rest I could skip them or visit them next time. In the end, I have carved out a simple itinerary for that day.

Where we went?

Kegon waterfall->Nikko Futarasan Jinja (Photo took only)->Toshogu Shrine-> Shinkyo (Bridge) (Photo only)

[Eat] Japan, Nikko- Yuba Soba Ryori at Tsuruya ChuZenji Ten

When you visit Nikko there is one dish that you shouldn’t miss, the [Yuba soba] this could be found everywhere around the street of Nikko.

Little to know:

Yuba(湯波) is known as tofu skin. There are 2 major cities in Japan, Nikko, and Kyoto, which are famous for their yuba.   It was originally from Kyoto and then to Nikko, this dish was served to the monks in the past and now is their local traditional delicacy.

Soba(そば), the buckwheat noodles is another delicacy that you shouldn’t miss it. The well-known soba town,  held a soba festival yearly during the autumn, in Imaichi. Where all the soba restaurants in the country will participate in. And the reason for their famous buckwheat noodles is because of the handmade noodles,  using high-quality buckwheat and clean water supplied from the feet of the mountains.

[Move] Getting bus pass around Nikko, which pass to choose?

Want to get around Nikko? But couldn’t decide which bus pass to get maybe this will be of a help in your planning.

I was actually in a dilemma at first of where I wanted to go. For most of the people, the route they would want to visit is quite easy to guess, which is called the 2 shrines 1 temple tour getting on and off the bus downtown. But if you want to go further down to see the waterfall it would be a little challenging and also time-consuming.

[Move] To Nikko transferring train at Utsunomiya Station

This post was actually not on the list when I planned my itinerary, but you all know that even though you have made a perfect plan for your trip unforeseen event will still happen.

I have actually got the reserved seat ticket to Nikko on the first day when we got to Japan at the airport for our direct train from Shinjuku station, however, we missed the train and had to transfer train at Utsunomiya Station.
