Lucerne is a Swiss-German speaking city in Central Switzerland perfectly situated at the foot of the Alps. The city lake reflects the snowy peaks like the popular day trip destinations, Mount Pilatus and Mount Titlis.
It is located an hour away from Zurich Airport, you can hop on board the fast and efficient Switzerland railway system. Consider getting the Swiss travel pass which gives you unlimited access to the Swiss train network.
Where to visit?
We stayed in Lucerne for 3 days 2 nights, however, to be exact, we only have 1.5 days to explore Lucerne. We planned a simple and relaxing itinerary, hence, we only visited less than 5 tourist attractions during our stay.
Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge)
“Kapellbrücke ( Chapel Bridge) is a wooden pedestrian bridge that spans Reuss River. It is named after the nearby St. Peter’s Chapel, which was built in 1333 one of the oldest wooden bridges in Europe.
Kapellbrücke, 6002 Luzern, Switzerland
What to see?
After we visited the bridge we had a walk along the Reuss river.
Along the way to Chapel Bridge, there are lots of shops and restaurants where we had a nice lunch. We spent some time sitting along the Reuss river doing nothing, enjoying the sun and scenery.
Löwendenkmal (Lion Monument)
To honour the Swiss Guards who were killed during the French Revolution the Lion Monument was erected in 1821.
Denkmalstrasse 4, 6002 Luzern, Switzerland
How to get there?
30 minutes or less
As the lion monument is still undergoing repair, we are unable to go near it, however, there is a viewing platform to take the photo with this iconic site.
