[Trip] Day Trip to Rothenburg from Munich

Spent a few days in Munich and we ventured to the town nearby. You can visit Rothenburg and spend a day in this beautiful little town. Here we will cover the places of interest, photo taking spot, how to get there and some of the little things we saw and did that day.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg ob der Tauber the well-known place for its well preserved middle age old town in the Bavaria state. A little countryside where the middle age fortifications and walkway are still largely intact, unique and beautiful houses seen along the alleys. Rothenburg is a great place to relax and get yourself out of the busy cities.

How to get there?

Munich ⇔ Rothenburg  (Day Pass)

Buy a day pass, where you can have unlimited rides on the local train (RB, RE). We have to transfer twice before we reach Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Walking route in Rothenburg

Rothenburg is a great place where we can spend the whole day just by taking photos and trying out some of the local snacks. I listed the top 10 places and snacks to see and try.

Rödertor (Röder Gate)

The first place where you will reach after a short walk from the station.

Markusturm (Marcus Tower)

Fleisch-und Tanzhaus (Meat-and Dance House)

Marktplatz (Market Square)

The busy marketplace where people gathered and meet here. And this is the place where the best Christmas market is held yearly.

Käthe Wohlfahrt

The place where you can purchase your Christmas decorations, gifts and accessories.

Plönlein (“Little Square”)

The famous postcard photo shoot, the best photo I could take that day after most of the people have gone off.

Zuckerbackerei

Take a stop at Zuckerbackerei and enjoy their local dessert ‘Schneeballen snowball’.

We bought the chocolate and original flavour. It taste like Chinese-style butterfly cookie, which I like and preferred the original. My friends favoured chocolate over the original.

Burgtor

Overlook – A Walk in the park

We followed a guided tour group and was brought to this view. It is so beautiful and mesmerising.

Extra Photo taking Spot

Found this alley and it is so colourful and I love the look of these little houses.

Overall:

The day trip was nice, we got to enjoy the beautiful scenery and some of the local cuisines. We did not linger too long at each of the photo-taking spot. However, for places like the Käthe Wohlfahrt, we spent more than an hour inside because it was so huge and there are a lot of things to see. If you are there near Christmas season you can buy some souvenirs back home.  We did not visit the famous St James church as when we were standing outside admiring the structure, we got distracted by the garden of the houses nearby, and we went and look at the houses instead. I would recommend you to stay here for a day if you enjoy these beautiful houses and quietness and have more time to walk around this town.
