[Trip] New Zealand- Things to do in Queenstown

This post will focus on what can we do in Queenstown. It is a small town but full of activities for travellers to participate and you will not feel bored staying there, plenty of stuff to keep you occupied.

Queenstown mall

Queenstown Mall is a pedestrian-friendly shopping street located centrally with a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. There is also a supermarket for you to get your groceries.

Overall:

We had our dinner at the Queenstown mall everyday. It has a wide variety of cuisine and cafes to choose from and we are pampered with all the choice. The shopping street is also full of famous brands and tour agencies where you can walk in and book your day tour if you feel like going out of Queenstown. I like how the street is well organised, and easy to walk around, however, would not recommend to stay out too late as it might become quite rowdy at certain area.

Skydiving with NZONE

NZONE is one of the pioneer tandem skydiving operator in Queenstown since 1990 and has won New Zealand’s Supreme Tourism Award.

Deciding on which skydiving operator was based on online reviews and we were glad that we took our first skydiving experience with NZONE. Service was of standard, clear instructions were given and provided prior, during and after the skydiving.

12,000ft you will freefall for up to 45 seconds.
9,000ft you will freefall for up to 25 seconds.

Depend on your timeslot, you will gather at the Nzone office first before heading off to the dropzone.

Watch the introduction video and to decide if you want to add other packages.

The van that will bring us to the dropzone.

We were told to gather and were given a number and grouped based on the different feet that we will be skydive from.

Enjoying the view and breeze air

Magnificent scenery

After landing we were told to wait as they prepare our certificate and if you purchased any photos or videos it will be given to you together with the thumb drive.

Overall:

We had our tandem jump from 15,000ft and also purchased the ultimate combo which is the Handycam photos and video with freefall photos video. It is the most memorable experience for us, freefall of 60sec and enjoying the breeze and scenery.

My tandem master was nice and friendly, we are well taken care of from each stop beginning with wearing of the full jumpsuit, gloves, hat and goggles until we get on the plane before our jump.

2-cents Opinion:

I would recommend skydiving from 15,000ft because the 9,000ft freefall is too short.

Our skydiving date was changed due to the bad weather and had to be rescheduled last minute when we were there. Allow more days in Queenstown so that you are flexible for the skydiving schedule as the weather might not in your favour.

Skyline Gondola

Want to have the scenic view of Queenstown? The easy option will be taking the Skyline Gondola which brings you right to the top of Bob’s Peak where you will be 450meter above Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.

Besides Gondola, there are plenty of activities to choose from. There are luge, trails for hiking and walks, mountain bikes lover can also ride downhill using the Queenstown Bike Park, and stargazing tour.

Suggestion:

We bought our ticket from the counter because we did not plan the gondola activity. However, if you are planning this activity beforehand, you can pre-purchase your ticket with Klook as it will cost cheaper than buying directly from their official website and sales counter.

1-2 hours

Another alternative to get down the mountain by using the luge.

Night view of Queenstown

Overall:

Getting up the top of Bob’s Peak was an impromptu schedule and it was a great experience, the view was awesome.  The night scenery is beautiful, would suggest if you have the time do stay up there for the sunset and the sky to go dark then the city light lit up.

Overall:

A nice afternoon walk we had at the Queenstown garden, because of the spare time we had. It was not crowded along the walking trail, although at times there are families or group of travellers riding bicycle through. You can spend your time at the bench along the lake to read a book or have a rest.
